Concrete, as a material, holds a significant resemblance to propolis in terms of being a human-created product. It not only mimics the properties of propolis but is also easily available locally due to its aggregate sourcing. The realm of Construction 3D Printing (c3Dp) or 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) encompasses a wide array of technologies that leverage 3D printing as a fundamental method for constructing buildings or various construction elements. This process is often interchangeably referred to as "additive construction."


Within the domain of 3D printing at a construction scale, the primary methods utilized include extrusion (involving concrete, cement, wax, foam, and polymers), powder bonding (such as polymer bond, reactive bond, and sintering), and additive welding.


A diverse range of methodologies have been showcased thus far, showcasing both on-site and off-site fabrication of buildings and construction elements. These methods employ a variety of tools including industrial robots, gantry systems, and tethered autonomous vehicles. The practical demonstrations of construction 3D printing technologies have spanned across the creation of housing structures, construction components like cladding, structural panels, and columns, as well as bridges, civil infrastructure, artificial reefs, follies, and sculptures.

Moreover, the term "3D Concrete" specifically alludes to technologies revolving around concrete extrusion, while other sub-groups like Autonomous Robotic Construction System (ARCS), large-scale additive manufacturing (LSAM), and freeform construction (FC) cater to additional specialized aspects within the realm of construction 3D printing.


3D construction printing has revolutionized the way we approach building construction. The use of 3D printing technologies in construction has opened up new possibilities for creating complex and innovative structures with greater efficiency and precision. By utilizing additive manufacturing techniques, construction projects can be completed faster and with reduced material waste.
